The global outcry that the world is currently experiencing can be directly correlated to the historical harm that discriminatory practices of the past have caused people of color - particularly those of African descent. In this country, the practice of race-based slavery and segregation has inflicted untold damage psychologically, physically, and financially on African Americans and their descendants.
The definition of reparations is simply “the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged”. We at Coming To The Table – RVA recognize that now is the perfect time to move reparations from discussion to action. Our vision, mission, and values along with our TABLE approach will enable us to “repair what is broken“ by using both a grassroots and systemic approach that brings people together for both communion and collaboration in racial healing. Through this holistic methodology we can begin to build a just and equitable future for all.
We encourage you to join us in this effort to truly realize Dr. King’s dream "that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' ".
